Local Knowledge

Local knowledge is often not documented and therefore difficult to incorporate (Anon., personal communication). Some of the topics that the farmers are expected to have knowledge on include: biodiversity in the cocoa landscape, trees that can grow together with cocoa and drivers of deforestation (Anon., personal communication; Anon., personal communication). Moreover, there might be traditional conservation practices that could contribute to biodiversity conservation efforts in the project (Conservation Alliance, 2013).

Research needs:

  1. What is the local knowledge with regards to the challenges that the project aims to address?

  2. What is the local knowledge on biodiversity conservation in cocoa landscapes?

  3. What is the farmer knowledge on tree species that can be planted on cocoa farms?
