RESEARCH NEEDS FOR SUSTAINABLE COCOA PRODUCTION IN GHANA

The cocoa landscape is a place from which communities derive their livelihoods, not only from cocoa since additional livelihoods can provide extra income. It is also important to consider food security for the people living in the landscape.  In order to improve conditions in the communties, the rural living environment should be improved and the health and safety of cocoa farmers needs to be taken into account. Finally, gender inequality and insufficient child protection, can pose challenges to projects addressing the communities. On the other hand, the involvement of the youth can be seen as an opportunity to improve project implementation.
