Ecological Processes

Research needs:

  1. Which ecological processes are important in the landscape?

  2. How are they affected by cocoa farming?

  3. How can they be protected?

  4. What is the link between the ecological processes and the ecological services?

Biodiversity conservation is not just about species that are present, but especially at the landscape level it is relevant to understand the ecological and evolutionary processes (e.g. migration, diversification and climate change adaptation) (Lombard et al., 2010). It is also important to understand how human activity is modifying the environment and which processes need to be protected and how this should be done. This could also relate to the services that the landscape provides and could thus be important information for PES schemes in the future.
