Baseline Biodiversity

Before a project aiming to conserve biodiversity can be established, the baseline biodiversity should be known. . Local knowledge can also be incorporated in this. Subsequently, it needs to be decided which species will be targeted. This can be based on several factors including the extent to which species are endangered in the area but also what is realistically possible in the cocoa landscape, which needs to be determined in collaboration with the stakeholders (especially the farmers).

Research needs:

  1. Which species occur in cocoa landscapes (and could be addressed in sustainability projects)?

  2. What is the local knowledge and perceptions of biodiversity?

  3. Which habitats can be created on cocoa farms?
